Denise Hines is a native of Independence. She graduated from Independence High School and attended Independence Community College for one year before transferring to Kansas State University to pursue degrees in both General Business Management and Marketing.
Denise and her husband, Scott, married and graduated from Kansas State University in the same year. They moved to the Kansas City area to start their careers and a family. Their son, Landon, was born in 2002, followed by their daughter, Hadley, in 2006. After spending ten years in Kansas City, the couple decided to return to Independence to raise their children in the same community they were both raised in.
Upon returning to Independence, Denise worked for Cable One as Marketing Manager for the Southeast, KS systems for two years and then as a para for Tri-County Interlocal. During her time as a para, Denise and Scott had the opportunity to foster and adopt their youngest daughter, Yajahira (Yaya). Denise still works for Tri-County in the Central Office.
Denise has served on the Board of Directors for Main Street, Community Chest and Children’s Summer Theatre. She was an active member of the Eisenhower PTO for six years and room parent for many more. She has served on the Neewollah board for nine years, serving as Secretary for three. She has co-chaired committees such as Advertising, Promotions, Sponsorship and Sanitation.
